Just got back from an awesome weekend in Dallas Texas. I worried about getting in since most of the AA flights were canceled. I got there fine, but Kim as USUAL! got stuck in DC once again. Poor girl. I told her husband Brian that I think she is secretly having an affair with someone in DC since she so often gets “stuck” there! Haha, not funny. I thought Texas would be warm and sunny, but it was cold and WINDY, like REALLY WINDY!! I kept saying it was like Kona winds and Kim would roll her eyes and say” Not even close sissy” So the race update:I thought I would beat Kim out of the water. Just goes to show that pool swim times mean nothing open water. Kim said the swim was fine, not rough at all. In fact she said” I didn’t get kicked around at all. It…
Training has been great the past few weeks. Kim travelled back from Maui and Australia and has reunited with her not so missed trainer!! We are both traveling to Irving Texas for a Half Ironman this Sunday. We are so looking forward to the race but most importantly we are excited to see each other!! My cheeks will probably hurt on Monday from laughing so much all weekend. Let’s just hope we make it to the start on time. Last time we did a half together was in Ottawa Canada. We were dilly dallying and floating out to the start and boom, The gun went off, I looked at Kim and said “Was that the gun!” She said my eyes were popping out of my goggles they were so big. She yelled”Yes!!!!” and off we went 100 yards back from the rest of the starters. We laugh about…
Since my last blog, I have been keeping up with the triathlon training. Kim and I are signed up to race a Half Ironman in Texas April 13th. We love racing together and comparing race stories at the end of the day. We just love laughing at each other as well and especially laughing about how we trashed ourselves!! Geez, haha makes me remember our Tri One O One race in Cali last year. The course was so hilly and hard!. (3/4 the length of an ironman) We were so trashed. After the race I was in the hospital bed (bed, but we call it the hospital bed after races) and she was talking to me, really mumbling and moaning and I couldn’t understand a word she was saying. Confused, I was like “where the hell are you, I can’t see you.” And she sighed and replied, ” Oh, I’m…
Since I decided not to continue with marathon training, I have been biking, swimming, running a little, and hitting the gym. This past weekend was awesome. It was typical Boulder in March. Sunny and highs in the 50’s. My roommate kelly (yes, Kelly and Kelly!) headed out for a 4:30 ride on Saturday. It was a nice welcome back into triathlon training. We had a great time and enjoyed being outside on such a beautiful day. Today I hit the trails with my number 1 training partners, Pre and Aggie. Pre carried a 6 foot log the last 3 miles and brought it right to the pond. How could I resist. 30 minutes of fetch and we were running back to the car. It’s like he’s all or nothing. Hmm sound familiar!! haha He has to get the biggest log, the biggest rock. I throw a little stick…
Oh boy, the past 2 weeks have been tough. I ramped it up since my last blog. I was really going for it. Needless to say, I trained hard and stayed focused, but by the end of the week everything hurt! My hip, my knee, my foot, you name it! I have come to the realization that it is not worth injury. I have run out of time. There is not enough time for me to be at my best April 20th. I’ve been at the Olympic Marathon Trials 2 times before and it is not worth it for me to go and not be at my best. This may sound snobby, but if I was to go and participate and run a 2:40, I would not be happy. I would feel unsatisfied. I feel like if I continued to train and try to run 3 marathons in 3 months,…
Hello!! Well, I was pretty beat up after the Miami Marathon. I couldn’t run for 6 days. I really focussed on a speedy recovery while also enjoying a nice break. I took it very easy for 2 weeks and was ready to resume training this week. The week went well. I didn’t worry about time or pace. I just ran by effort and logged 13 runs and some decent mileage for the week. Next week I’ll worry more about pace January was such a struggle for me. Being so sick and struggling every single run was so frustrating. I am so fired up now to resume training and feel fast again. I am considering running the Virginia Beach Shamrock marathon March 17th to once again attempt to get my OT qualifier. Many people have said to me ” That is tough. You are going to try to run…
I just got back from the ING Miami Marathon. I am so thrilled and also so disappointed. It’s amazing you can have 2 extreme emotions all in the same race. My number one goal was to get my Olympic Trials Qualifier. (sub 2:47) My number 2 goal was to win, and my number 3 goal was to finish. Going into the race I must say that I was consumed with worry. When I signed up for the race December 1st, I thought I had 2 months of solid training to prepare for the race. That time was cut in half due to the bronchitis and sinus infection that wasn’t getting better. I was put on 2 different kinds of antibiotics which I finally finished just 2 days before the marathon. I just felt so sluggish the past 4 weeks and was not able to get in any key…
It sure seems like everyone in the world is sick this time of year. I must say, I never really get sick and when I do I can usually train trough it and be fine in 5-7 days. Not this time. It has definitely beaten me down and I have definitely not won the battle. I have been sick for 2 weeks with bronchitis and a sinus infection. I was feeling better so decided to give the Houston Half Marathon a whirl. I felt fine jogging, but when it was time run at a fast pace in the race, I had absolutely nothing. I felt so horrible, so I decided to stop at mile 10. I have the Miami Marathon Jan 27th, so I just couldn’t see the point of digging myself into a deeper hole. It would only set me back. Rest and recovery is the only thing that…
My athletes come to me for inspiration but little do they know that I draw so much inspiration from each of them. I had a blast watching my 2 athletes and friends Danny Golden (Dan The Man) and Courtney (Sportymama) Spratt finish the 2008 Houston Marathon. As you know, The Houston Marathon hold many special memories for me and it was great to be back in such an incredible city watching runners rip shit up.Battling strong winds, Danny ran close to PR marathon finishing in 3:51 and Sportymama blazed to a 3:35Anytime you watch someone you care about reaching a goal, you can’t help but become excited, inspired, and satisfied. I want to thank all my runners and triathletes for being such an inspiration to me. We all have busy lives and the fact that we can come together in sport and strive towards our goals together, is amazing.
